Prints, cards, mugs, mats & more!
Jane Norman is a photographer by day and a cyanotyper by night…well, not quite, as you need sunlight to create cyanotypes! Cyanotypes otherwise known as ‘blueprints’ are created using a traditional camera-less technique using iron salts and UV light – which produces the fabulous Prussian blues and whites.
Each of Jane’s designs are hand-drawn on acetate and exposed to sunlight on the light sensitive paper, then washed in cold water. She then photographs each piece of a design before cutting them into individual pieces on the computer and layering them, to create the final design…adding a final pop of colour here and there. She also hand draws the animals to add into the mix before they are printed on museum grade archival paper which retains the saturation of colour.
Jane’s cyanotypes started as a bit of fun for a Christmas poster a couple of years ago. “I’ve gone from creating cards and prints to mugs and now some fabulous mini wooden jigsaws, which have been fun to create and fun thinking up more designs….and even better is that they are designed and made into jigsaws right here in Dorset… and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do creating them.”
