We are very sad to learn of the death of Peter Thomas, who regularly exhibited his prize-winning woodturning at Dorset Arts & Crafts Association events.
As a farm manager in Rampisham, Peter always had an interest in wood and pursued wood-turning as a hobby. When he retired, his hobby became a full -time cottage industry. His passion was never intended as a business but soon he had accumulated so much work he took some to a small event in the village and sold out. Gradually he attended more and more shows, and gained a reputation in the craft.
Peter was an enthusiastic supporter of DACA. He first took part in the annual DACA Summer exhibition in the early 1990s and continued to sell his work at our events until very recently. We shall miss him at DACA and extend our condolences to his wife Jennie and his family.
A memorial service for Peter will take place at St Michael and all Angels Church Rampisham at 2pm on Wednesday 10 April 2024 followed by a wake at Rampisham village hall.
Donations in Peter’s memory, which will go to the Dorset Coppice Group and Countrymen UK, may be made through A.J.Wakely & Sons at the Tributes and Donations page. It will also be possible to make a donation at the service.
