My son emigrated in 2014 shortly after I retired, leaving his kiln with me. I experimented with it and found working with glass fascinating. It is a versatile material to work with, and I love trying new techniques – I particularly like the effect of copper or cobalt oxides, which not only give the glass colour, but create bubbles that both add texture and sparkle in the light.
I enjoy the challenge of commissions such as tailoring a spiral of fish to fit a particular location or creating new forms, such as lobsters or kingfishers.
I am currently working on techniques to make fish spiral sculptures for the garden – but I still have some challenges to overcome. Watch this space…
