Rachel is a knitter of wire!
After finding the enamelled copper wire in a broken television, she sewed, bound, crocheted and finally knitted with it! The 0.2mm wire has thread-like qualities and using a Brother knitting machine, Rachel knits a metal ‘fabric’ which can be folded and shaped into things.
The colour coating is waterproof and non tarnish… a jeweller’s dream material!
It’s been thirty years of making and the ideas keep on coming!
A Somerset local, she and her artist mother, Jan Billings, celebrate 27 years of running their Glastonbury gallery, Facets of Avalon.
