Memories…… they’re so important aren’t they !? They take so many different forms, encompassing our senses…… it is with this in mind that I transfer these elements of “memories” into my work. The jewellery pieces are mostly multi-sensory, incorporating touch, sight and sound, whether it’s feeling the textured hammered metal surface or listening to the tinkling sound of interlocking silver circles which also feature heavily in my work as I enjoy
exploring the links to nature, eternity, harmony and unity.
When I was little you could always find me hoarding a variety of found treasures ( no change there!) I suppose this was the beginnings of my affinity to precious metals, stones, beads and threads. Fast forward to 2008, when I enrolled on a Silversmith course, which led me to embrace my fascination with all things reflective. The shiny, sparkly nature of metals have only
forged the connection, I have with the ocean and the way light interacts with its surface, whether it’s sunlight, moonlight or even starlight.
Some of the pieces I make have a whimsical feel to them and come to life along with my copper bowls and spoons in my home studio, using mostly traditional methods. I work with Copper, Stainless Steel, Brass and Sterling Silver, sometimes with a hint of gold, all of which are recycled or offcuts from other projects elsewhere. The stones (precious/semi) , beads, glass and threads I use are all responsibly, ethically sourced or upcycled and recycled.
